Wine Review: 2018 Hook or Crook Cellars Field Blend Red Wine

2018 Hook or Crook Cellars Field Blend Red Wine

There's lots of great things to report on about this wine, not the least of which is that is was $6.99 at Costco. Naturally, I was a little skeptical but it was boasting 92 points from Wine Enthusiast so I thought it was worth a try, and I was right!
Hook or Crook Cellars is located in Lodi, California which is another reason why I wanted to try it. Lodi is known for it's superb Old Vine Zinfandels and Old Vine Zins are my most favorite kind of wine. They call this one "Field Blend" but I say this "blend" is comprised primarily of Zinfandel and it's really good.
There's not much in the way of description on the label but there are definite notes of black cherry and oak. It's a little jammy, "tastes like unsweetened cherry jam" is what I wrote in my wine journal.
If you see this wine at Costco, don't be fooled by the $6.99 price tag. Hook or Crook Cellars Field Blend Red Wine tastes a lot more expensive than it is which, in my book, makes it a good deal.
Other pertinent info: 13.9% Alc/Vol and you'll need to dig the cork screw of the bottom drawer if you want to get it open.
